In Sync

After being used in 12 PGA Tour victories and multiple top 10 finishes, the STX Sync Series of putters certainly have a proven track record, and the series continues with the new for 2012 Sync Series 8 Putter – the SS8. This one features STX’s patented soft insert technology, the “F.E.E.L.” – Friction Enhancing Elastomer Layer, which is used to increase topspin, provide superior directional control, decreased ball skid and reduced ball deformation. We hope to feel it on the greens later this season.

Much More Than a Pup Tent

For those who camp alone the traditional method is to utilize a bivy, but we recently heard about the Kilo 1P from Easton Mountain Products. This is a one-person tent that weighs just 1 kilogram – or 2.2 pounds – and provides three-season shelter with just a single, sleek carbon fiber pole. It provides enough space for the equipment and more importantly provides some headspace that is usually missing in a bivy. With about 18 square feet, along with a side area for a pack this is like bringing creature comforts to the great outdoor!

Jonesin’ to Board

While many sports have seen the development of women-specific products this hasn’t always been the case, but now those ladies looking to hit the powder can do it on a board made just for them. Jones Snowboards, the brand behind professional big mountain boarder Jeremy Jones, has introduced a line of women’s snowboards for the 2012-2013 season. PhatBlox Brings Fat Ride

Longboarders have a new way to keep control and get a little adjustability with their boards. The PhatBlox is designed to help provide a bit more support for heftier riders, while also letting them make adjustments to fine-tune the feel for a smoother ride.

The system can be used to retro-fit a board in a few minutes. Made of billeted aluminum, the blocks (PhatBlox) are just installed around the trucks using very simple hardware. A cable connects between the front and rear blocks and once tightened it flexes the board downward and allows the deck to hold more weight. For some it might be an easier fix than dropping a few pounds. Additional images after the jump

Trek Rolls Out King’s Crown of Bicycles

There is a new Trek ready for the roads. The company has introduced its high-anticipated 2013 Domane – which is Latin for King’s Crown. Tapping Into Something

Hydration packs are fantastic for carrying along water or other beverages for a long bike ride, hike or run. These are easy enough to fill up from a faucet but less so on the go. Now the Source Universal Tap Adapter makes it easier to refill the reservoir through the drink tube rather than in the opening in the back.  The UTA valve works with different kinds of taps and even water bottles, the latter needing a bit of gravity of course. From the wink the pressure is all you’ll need.

This allows a new way to fill up, but also gives new meaning to backwash. Continue reading Tapping Into Something

Skateboard Company Calls for Riders to Wear Brain Buckets

There was actually a time when football was played without helmets, and batters in baseball just headed to the plate with their cap. Times have changed, and football, baseball and hockey all require helmets to be worn. Cycling and many winter sports are now seeing helmets being used.

Last fall skateboard maker Freebord launched its “Wear A Helmet 4ST” campaign, and has called upon riders to wear a helmet every time they ride. This comes after Sam Trowbridge (ST), a Freebord pro team member, suffered a fatal brain injury last year while Freebording. He was not wearing a helmet. The company coped with the tragic loss of one of its own by trying to inspire preventative measures. Wear a Helmet 4ST is part of an ongoing effort to get all riders, not just freeborders, to wear a helmet.

Yakka Reviews

There are many specialty sites, and this month saw the launch of Heart Rate Watch Reviews from Yakka, Inc. The company specializes in under-served information market, and the site was born out of Emil Yau of Yakka’s own enthusiasm for an active lifestyle.

“I put a high value on living a healthy and active lifestyle. While regular exercise and healthy dieting is important, monitoring your heart rate can also be important,” states Yau. “Heart rate watches can be a vital part of an exercise program. They can help you target your heart rate to stay within specific zones whether for upping your exercise regimen or because of existing health conditions that require it.”

Having another opinion and a way to compare devices sounds good to us.

Jet Pack

You won’t take flight with this one, but the Jet Backpack from Italy’s O-Range will let you catch some air – inside the pack! The patented Air-range inflatable padding system is designed to replace the dense foam that most backpacks provide for comfort.

The water-resistant pack features an interior valve that can be inflated, and the idea here is to make the backpack both more comfortable while providing a bit of protection as well. It is also designed to be breathable to avoid all that sweat on the back. There are plenty of internal pockets to keep electronics dry, and the company even has a solar panel version available to charge up those electronics on the go.
