Pickwick Bag Not Just for Papers

Charles Dickens would certainly appreciate the Pickwick bag from Brooks of England. While this versatile water-resistant treated canvas roll-top backpack was made in England, it would certainly be the type of bag that the members of the Pickwick Club might have used on their various adventures to the old coaching inns of England.

It features numerous compartments, and a roll-top system to ensure items are protected while maintaining a sleek look. The bag also offers a “secret” pocket and extra compartment just in case. Jolly good indeed!

Bicycle cleaning supply maker has White Lightning strikes again with its new line of biodegradable wipes made of bamboo. Nano Tech Fixes Flats

httpv://youtu.be/FgyGLWGB-AM

We’ve been hearing a lot about “nano technology,” the ultra small gizmos that can solve problems often too small for the eye to see. While it seems that nano technology isn’t just for high-tech problems, as UK-based firm Eiatech is looking to use it to solve the all-too-common problem of flat tires.

As the video above suggests the Wheelgoo can be injected into the tire through the valve as a preventive measure against punctures as well as for roadside repairs. Eiatech along with Grotech Production, a manufacturer of powder and liquid agrichemical formulations, together have worked to developed Wheelgo over the last three years. The product, which utilized ultra-micro fibers and nano-spheres is now available.

It could be a small solution to what can be a big problem for riders!

Fixie Pedals

Clipless pedal systems – the kind that actually require you to clip in despite the name – aren’t for everyone and they certainly aren’t for all types of riding. This is why some companies have continued to innovate with other pedal systems, and why the Gates Pedal Strap Kit from Fyxation could be for those who want to get the versatility of toe clips without feeling like they’re stuck to the pedals. Podium Has Your Shoes Covered

Winter bike riding means bundling up, and that can include putting the shoes in a cover. There are plenty of streamlined basic shoe sleeves, but the guys at Podium Shoe Covers have introduced some that feature a bit of humor. These include covers that evoke the look of a work boot (above), dress shoes, roller skates and even high heels.

The covers are also offered in three weights including summer, spring/fall and winter, and are available now!

Bag and Bike

We’ve all seen people try to carry bags on the handlebars of their bicycles. The result is often haphazard where the bags aren’t stable. However, a new Kickstarter project called the Bag Buddy is looking to provide a better means of carrying items on the handlebars.

Basically this utilizes simple hooks that can attach over the handlebar grips. One real benefit of the hooks is that the bags will swing back and forth rather than side to side – and thus into the front wheel. While we still question what this might mean for the balance on the bars, it is better than looping the bags over the bars! Video after the jump

Elevengear Unleashes the Coral Snake

While many cycling apparel companies offer jerseys with team logos, flags and other images we do like the unique looks that Elevengear has to offer. The company released unleashed the Coral Snake line of jerseys, which feature eye-watering fluorescent yellow dyes an a pattern that authentically replicates the scales of a snake.

These further offer 3M retro-reflective striping, and a full, hidden zipper that will surely allow riders to be seen. As the company noted on its website, “there is nothing subtle about this jersey,” and for those who like to stand out this one is ready to strike!

Fit Like a Glove

From BikeRadar: Best winter gloves for mountain biking and commuting
Once the temperature drops, riding-specific winter gloves are essential for keeping warm and in control on your bike. A decent pair will offer windproofing and, in some cases, waterproofing, although it’s important that any fleeciness doesn’t get too in the way of dexterity. Bottle of Booze Comes With… Bicycle!

We’ve seen many examples of bike shops offering a free water bottle with the purchase of a bike. French liquor maker St-Germain had another idea. Buy the special edition bottle and get a free steel singlespeed bicycles and custom leather top tube bottle carrier.

Of course the limited edition “bottle” costs $1,000 but it does include a Hi-Ten bike with Michelin World Tour tires, Brooks leather saddle. We’re not sure how we feel about whether this promotes drinking and riding, but at least when the bottle is emptied you’d still have a bike to ride.
