Another day at the Outdoor Demos at Interbike. With temperatures in the upper 90s and wind that kicked in from all directions it wasn’t so much a day of demos as it was a day of enduring the elements! But where else can you get a cold one before noon? Continue reading Interbike Outdoor Demo Day 2

Interbike 2013: Greg LeMond Goes Back in Time
The Greg LeMond brand had been rolling for years with Trek but things took a turn for the worse in recent years. Now the three-time Tour de France winner has announced that he’s getting back into the bike business with a limited-edition line of carbon road bikes produced by Time.
The LeMond line will reportedly consist of three bikes, with color schemes based on his Tour wins in 1986, 1989 and 1990.
“My interest in the bicycle as a machine, with its design, details and innovative possibilities, never went away after I retired from racing in late 1994,” LeMond said via a statement. “For a time I lost my creative outlet, but like form coming back to a rider who was weakened, I have rediscovered my creativity and passion for the bike. I’ve traveled the world, observing carbon fabrication in more detail than ever before, and I’ve refined my ideas.”
LeMond is also selling fitness trainers and stationary through his LeMond Fitness business.
Interbike 2013: Smells Like V-Spirit
At this week’s Interbike trade show in Las Vegas Vittoria is introducing its V-Spirit high-performance lightweight shoe. This features a new micrometric cable closure system that perfectly adapts to the foot. It further utilizes a highly breathable upper mesh and the Pebax air system allows heel ventilation.
The V-Spirit also offers a CNS Carbon Heart sole. Spirit, sole and heart and all for the feet. What more could you want?
Come Clean… From a Ride
A dirty mountain bike is a loved and well-used mountain bike. The layers of dirt can be reminders of good times, unless of course you live in an apartment or just don’t want piles of “reminders” everywhere. This is where the QBike automated bike-washing station comes in.
It was demonstrated at the recent Eurobike trade show and could be a way to get a bike clean after you have all that fun. Video after the jump
Interbike 2013: Graeme Newell to Offer Industry Keynote
Interbike is about bicycles, but it is more than just about the actual motorless vehicle with two wheels. Bicycles require infrastructure, and this includes being able to connect with customers. This year emotional marketing guru Graeme Newell will deliver the keynote at the Interbike Industry Breakfast presented by PeopleforBikes and the NBDA.
The 2013 Interbike Industry Breakfast presented by PeopleforBikes (formerly Bikes Belong) and the NBDA takes place on Wednesday, September 18th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center from 7:30AM to 9:00 AM.
Interbike Outdoor Demo Day 1
We spent the day at the Interbike Outdoor Demo. Despite the heat the crowd was enthusiastic and there was much to see and little to take it all in. Continue reading Interbike Outdoor Demo Day 1
Interbike Preview: Looking Back
Interbike is just starting, but already we’re looking back thanks to RearViz, a new portable/packable mirror that provides a fairly wide visibility range. Instead of being mounted on the handlebars or on a helmet, this mirror is worn on the arm providing the ability to move the mirror as needed to get that clear view of what might be coming at you. It could be the next best thing to eyes in the back of your head.

Eye Contact
From GearPatrol: Being Seen: Visible Cycling
Hey there. Yeah, you, riding along in your cool color-coordinated cycling team kit, all matchy-matchy. You look real spiffy, so neat you’ll make a great hood ornament. Because that’s where you’re going to end up — on someone’s hood, or like me, under one. Those who really need to see you, can’t. In your fancy attire, you’re invisible to motorists. Cycling Underwear
While many people around the world ride bikes in regular clothing, those who put in serious miles know that sometimes having some padding in just the right place can make a big difference. There are times when the Lycra look doesn’t work, but Christiana Guzman of Austin, Texas had another idea.
She launched a Kickstarter project, which has already surpassed its goals, to roll out Chamois Panties. These are meant to be stylish and comfortable cycling underwear for women. They can be used for the spin class or a ride around town.
These feature a foam insert sewn in for added comfort while riding, and unlike traditional riding shorts with a chamois, these panties are designed fit discreetly under your clothing. Video after the jump
Get HIP About Head Injuries
An active lifestyle can be good for the body – unless of course you fall on your head. Numerous studies have shown the dangers that an impact to the head can have, and HIP-TEC is looking to change the way helmets are made.
HIP-TEC’s research has come about thanks to Nick Turner, a former pro kayaker and founder of WRSI helmets. He is now working to focus exclusively on head injury prevention technology. But HIP-TEC isn’t actually making helmets, and instead is looking to make helmet designs safer.
The company offers a patent pending layered design to lower the amount of G forces to a wearer’s head during an impact. This is accomplished by using all of the layers or just a few depending on the speed of the impact. The result is reportedly a helmet that protects just as well at slow speed as high.
Rainbow to a T
Après Vèlo has offered up some cycling inspired t-shirts for the Tour de France and with the UCI Road World Championship heading to Florence, Italy later this month the company has hit the road (so to speak) with its Worlds Rainbow T-Shirt.
It offers a semi-fitted crew neck, with printed graphics on the front and rear, and of course includes the rainbow stripe on the sleeve to honor the World Road Cycling Champion – and even includes a small rear patch pocket. And unlike the actual “rainbow jersey” you don’t have to head to Florence to get one.
Ride or Stroll
There are times when you might want to take the young won for a bike ride, but in crowded areas a stroller works better. It isn’t easy to bring a stroller on a bike, but the Vagabond solves the problem by transforming from bicycle to stroller in under a minute.
Developed by Spanish-based SmartBikes the Vagabond was introduced at last month’s EuroBike trade show. It features a 3-speed Shimano Nexus drivetrain with mechanic disc brakes to ensure you can stop. It offers a low center of gravity and there is even an option for a double child seat! Smart stuff. Video after the jump
