Get in the Skin(Suit)

Course-SkinsuitWhile many people might not feel comfortable in their skin, who wouldn’t feel good in the Louis Garneau Course Skin Suit, which offers an aerodynamic efficiency for cyclists? The one-piece suit actually resembles a jersey and short but provides the convenience of a full zippered front and three floating back pockets. It has a minimal number of seams, pre-shaped shoulders and lazer-finished transition to the skin.

This suit was worn by Team Europcar in the Tour de France, where it proved aero enough for time trials but breathable enough for the warm mountain stages.

Fab FLAB

FLABRiding a bike is meant to get you – and even keep you – in shape. But while riders do come in all shapes and sizes, clothing does not. Often time most cycling attire is designed for those ready to wear yellow in the Tour de France, so larger riders are left with fewer options.

Seeing this need for clothing for the larger set is Fat Lad at the Black – or FLAB – a new clothing line launched by three Yorkshire cyclists. Designed in the U.K. it is made in Italy and is aimed at Mamils (Middle aged men in Lycra). So enjoy the extra beer after the ride, or go back for another burrito. These clothes will have you covered – just don’t over do it too much.

Dutch Inspired Jacket

Showers-PassOne thing about the Netherlands is that it rains a bit and people ride bikes – hence they ride in the rain. The new Amsterdam jacket from Showers Pass would be right at home in the Dutch capital, as it is designed for bicycle commuters who want to stay comfortable and dry on the bike but still look presentable off it.

The jacket is made with a three-layer waterproof softshell fabric in a charcoal gray. It features a drop-down 3M reflective rear panel, reflective piping accents, gusseted weather-guard cuffs and adjustable hem with cord lock, hidden pit zips, side pockets and a chest pocket with audio port.

2014-Women's-Golf-CollectioFall is often known for its colors, but Antigua Group is thinking of the colors of spring with its Antigua Spring 2014 Women’s Golf Collection. This line up promises color, style, sophisticated fabrics and a perfect mix of silhouettes, as it features bold ombre stripes, lightweight mélange fabrics and textured jacquards.

The line features more open necklines and neon colors that pop, while the Desert Dry technology will be there to absorb and wick moisture quickly and evenly. While winter is coming the spring line will be something to look forward to for next season.

Don’t Leave Without the Sleeve

Run-SleeveWe think of sleeves as being something for the arms, but the 2XU Compression Performance Run Sleeves are worn on the legs, and these feature a zoned breathability panel for maximum airflow and comfort. This gradient panel provides increased blood flow and maximum muscle containment.

These can be used for endurance activities and workout sessions as well as for putting in the miles on the road. These promise improved race times and faster recovery, along with reduced muscle fatigue and can even help minimize shin splints.

Tough Glove

HestraWith the calendar telling us that it is October we can’t deny much longer that colder weather is on the way for parts of the country, but the Hestra gloves will keep the digits warm and even provide some extra dexterity.

The Hestra Ergo Grip OutDry Long Gloves, which are arriving in stores this month, are designed for those who need to use a tool or other equipment in cold weather. These aren’t ideal for extreme cold, but for those times when some cover on the fingers is enough these will do the job and more. These feature a waterproof yet breathable OutDry construction along with a thin fleece lining. The palm and fingers of the gloves are designed with a slight inward curve to provide a natural fit out of the box.

The exterior is made of “army goat leather” that has been reinforced with abrasion and heat resistant kangaroo leather. This material means a very tough glove that are up to most tasks.

Fall to Spring

AntiguaSpring isn’t exactly around the corner, as we still have a lot of fall and then winter, but Antigua has us thinking ahead. The company has unveiled its Spring ’14 Performance 72 Golf Collection, which promises vivid color, sophisticated styling and luxurious fabrics.

It builds on the company’s proprietary Desert Dry and Desert Dry Xtra-Lite moisture management technology to help wick away moisture, and the line is replete with 17 shirt models, 12 outerwear tops, two shorts and seven hats. Collection Highlights

Eurobike: Are Those Shorts Inside Out?

X-BionicNo those shots in the photo aren’t inside out. These were spotted at last month’s Eurobike, and are a new trend from X-Bionic – which offered clothing demos last week during the Demo Day. The Swiss company noted that its brand hasn’t been available in the United States, which is why these may look so odd to us. The chamois is sewn into the shorts or bibs without the usual layer of material on the outside. This reportedly allows it rest directly on the saddle and reduces friction.

X-Bionic also introduced a line of jerseys that also appear inside out and feature technology called “The Trick,” which is there to make riders sweat more.

These both look odd to us, but then again to those who don’t ride cycling attire isn’t exactly considered normal clothing either!
