Digital Camo
Many cyclists may be of the “Weekend Warrior” variety – as in they only get out for a ride on the weekends. Whether that is you or not, the Podium Cycling Weekend Warrior jersey will have you covered. It features a 140 gram polyester material, and offers UPF25 sun protection, has three rear pockets, and a hidden YKK zipper.
This jersey also features a digital camouflage pattern – much like the kind that the military is now moving away from – but instead of helping you blend in on the road or the trails it might help you stand out.
Winter Olympic Games: Rule Columbia
This wouldn’t have happened during the Cold War. American athletes are about to head to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics and they’ll be heading in style in uniforms made by Columbia Sportswear. What is unique about this is that earlier this month Columbia unveiled the Ski Team uniforms for the U.S. as well as Canadian and Russian teams!
Columbia showed these off to the press in Utah, and the uniform collection included those for moguls, aerials, half-pipe, skicross and slopestyle events. Many of these uniforms will feature the compnay’s Omni-Heat Thermal Reflective technology as a base layer to help keep the athletes warm. Many across America who have been digging out in recent weeks likely wish they had such technology.
Other features reportedly include a new waterproof zipper that is bonded to the laser-cut fabric, removable pockets and even special patterns that have been dubbed “snow camouflage.” We’ll be watching for these uniforms in next month’s games.

Nike Looks to the Summit
Last week we reported on Nike’s new winter boots, and it seems that the company has just the jacket to go with it. The Nike Aeroloft 800 Summit Jacket features a pioneering combination of ripstop nylon and 800-fill down baffles for breathability and lightweight, unencumbered warmth. It also utilizes movement-activated ventilation, which allows trapped air and body heat to escape through laser-cut perforations as the wearer’s activity level increases, but without letting cold air in.

SHOT Show: Stormr is Coming
STORMR brand clothing is ready to take the outdoor world by storm with its line of foul weather gear. These provide warmth and mobility and at this year’s SHOT Show the company is looking to go clandestine of sorts with its STEALTH Series.
STORMR products use Neoprene Core Technology to adapt the benefits generations of divers have used to fight the elements to land-based and amphibious activities. STORMR is owned by Henderson Sport Group, which has manufactured neoprene for half a century and understands the material’s unique abilities. The resulting gear provides maximum comfort and maneuverability, along with superior thermal benefits, in a thin, soft, flexible, windproof and waterproof shell which also provides positive buoyancy.
While it is unlikely the next trip to the woods will require such protection from the elements you’ll be glad STORMR has you covered.
DeFeet Warms the Toes with Thermeator Winter Cycling Socks
You can wear all of the appropriate clothing to arm yourself against the cold, but if your feet are cold, it’s all lost. That’s why we’re excited to see the new Thermeator cycling socks from DeFeet. The Thermeator sock is lighter in weight than knit socks, and actually claims to be 30 percent lighter than comparable merino wool socks. It has a faster drying rate, and quickly wicks moisture away from your feet. DeFeet says the Thermeator is flexible and thrives in cold, damp climates. While we will use these on any winter rides, we may take a few more opportunities to wear these warming socks this winter. Such as when we go for a hike, shovel the driveway, or even just go out to the store.

Show of Force
Cycling apparel startup Soulforce is making a show of force with its new line. Designed for those who might not exactly be ready to hang in the peleton, performance cycling apparel offers a more forgiving cut. The company offers jerseys from sizes small to 5XL for men and S to 3XL for women.
Its line of relaxed fit jerseys offer two-way mechanical stretch fabric with UV-resistant and anti-microbial properties, raglan sleeves, three-quarter-length YKK hidden zippers and dye-sublimated graphics. These jerseys will appeal to those with racing in their blood as much as those with causal cycling in their souls.
2014 Archery Trade Association Tradeshow Preview: Prois Hunting & Field Apparel for Women
January is truly a month of trade shows, which begins week with CES and continues next week with the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and SHOT Show in Las Vegas. While SHOT Show is where we expect to see the latest and greatest in hunting and shooting sport equipment, the 2014 Archery Trade Association Tradeshow will take place later next week in Nashville.
We’re not up for yet another show (and will be heading to Vegas), but have been hearing news of what attendees will likely see. This includes new products from Prois Hunting and Field Apparel for Women, including the new 2014 Women’s Artemis Competitive Archery Shooting Shirt from Prois (above left), and the new Archtach Down Jacket by Prois Hunting. So whether it is competition archery at the range or a day in the woods it sounds like Prois will have women archers covered this year.

Made in America: Chain Stay Away
Those who commute by cycle face a number of perils on the way to and from the office including cars, people not paying attention and other hazards of the road. While there are plenty of cycle friendly clothing options the bike doesn’t always play nice with nice clothing.
Grease from the chain can ruin and outfit and day, but the StaySharp Commuter Cuff from Exposed Seam will help cover up the spot where a grease spot might otherwise ruin the clothing. With these on the leg there is no reason to roll up the pant legs, and it can protect from spotting and keep the clothing out of the chain.
These are made in America of Cordura fabric and available in a range of colors. The cuff closes ithging around the ankle with Velcro and there is even a reflective panel to help with other perils of the ride home.
Looking Retro
Didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas, or did Santa leave you a couple of bucks? How about a retro jersey? The Chainlink, the Chicago Bicycling Online Community, is offering a 100 percent Merino wool jersey that will be available only until Friday, January 3. This is your chance to get a cool jersey for spring.
