Sunice Hurricane Collection Ready for Spring

Hurricane season is typically in the summer and fall, but the new Albany jacket from Sunice will be ready for spring showers as well. This new outerwear jacket for the golf course, which is part of the 2013 Sunice Hurricane Colleciton, utilizes Gore-Tex to create a garment that is 25 percent lighter while offering 25 percent more stretch.

The jacket also features the Sunice patented V-collar and the 2 Way front zipper, as well as an iPod storage chest pocket with waterproof lockdown zippers, allowing golfers to keep their devices protected from moisture.

It will be ready for the links next spring.

Cycling Jacket

There is a real trend in providing cycling apparel that doesn’t feature logos and other artwork, and isn’t skin tight. This new line of apparel offers clothing for those who like to ride to work and don’t want to change when they get there.

The Land’s End Madison Bike Blazer is such a jacket. While we first thought it was inspired by the epic “Madison” track bike races held in Madison Square Garden in the 1920s and 1930s, it was actually named for the bicycle-friendly city in Wisconsin. Continue reading Cycling Jacket

Morvelo Introduces New Women’s Jerseys

English cycling jersey maker Morvelo has long covered the male riders, but for 2013 the company has introduced a full line of women’s jerseys. As with the men’s line up these are handmade in Europe of BioActive Polyester that features an antimicrobial agent infused directly into the fibers. This ensures that the agent won’t wear off or wash away. This will keep it out of the skin and out of the environment, but also keep the jersey from retaining that long ride smell, which would be very un-lady like!

Antigua Unveils Spring 2013 Men’s Collection

It won’t be long now until the holiday lights are down, the tree is sitting on the curb and the golf course is buried in snow. In other words winter is just about here, but we don’t mind because Antigua has unveiled its new Spring 2013 Men’s Collection, which as the photo above shows will be full of brighter and bolder colors. This includes the launch of six invigorating colors that will help get us through the gray days to come. Continue reading Antigua Unveils Spring 2013 Men’s Collection

Pants for Biking

On the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory main character Sheldon Cooper noted that he “bus pants” as in pants he wears over regular pants so as not to soil his own pants. Now you don’t need to be a fictionalized scientist with behavioral issues to understand the desire not to want to sit on some city buses, but we’d love to hear Dr. Cooper’s take on “Bicycle Pants.”

While we know that bicycle shorts have padding in just the right places, the Bulgarian company Any Exit has introduced a line of bicycle-specific pants dubbed the Small Foot. What exactly is “bicycle-specific” you might ask? The company has created pants designed function more effectively on a bike, and offer three removable pouches instead of pockets and one even comes stocked with a poncho so the wearer is ready for rainy weather. The other pocket is filled with a small backpack that expands to a collapsible backpack for added carrying capacity. The pants also include cuff ties covered in reflective tape that helps keep the cuffs out of the drivetrain as well. Video after the jump

Holiday Gift Idea: Elevengear Ginger Jersey

Yes, the Ginger Jersey is a play on redheads, but that’s not a requirement to don the Ginger Jersey from Elevengear. The long sleeve jersey is suitable as a standalone jersey, or as a baselayer, which means you can wear it when it’s hot or cold out. It gets its name because the long sleeves offer full coverage and the jersey is rated 35+ SPF, so those fair haired cyclists can wear it and not worry about sun exposure. H&M To Roll Out Cycling Attire

When we heard that H&M was going to introduce a line of cycling attire we weren’t sure what to think. Did the clothing retailer just add an athletic section? But it turns out that this isn’t exactly racing attire, but more along the lines of fashionable clothing for those who like to cycle and don’t want the spandex look.

H&M is partnering with Brick Lanes Bikes and will deliver a lineup of backpacks, shirts, waterproof jackets and pants. The clothing is set to roll in March of next year. Video after the jump

If the Virtual Shoe Fits: Shoefitr

The problem with shoe shopping online is that you can never guarantee the fit. Or can you? A new system from Shoefitr makes it possible to get a good fit when virtual shoe shopping. The tool lets users see a visual fitting comparison, which allows shoppers to determine fit. One store, SoccerPro, has seen a 28 percent reduction in its return rates since implementing the virtual fitting app last year. Continue reading If the Virtual Shoe Fits: Shoefitr

Napsack Wearable Sleeping Bag

We’ve seen a few wearable sleeping bags, including the Selk’Bag (one could allow wearers to look like a lifesize version of Gumby), but the latest twist on a wearable sleeping bag is the Poler’s Napsack, which is reportedly “part sleeping bag, part hoodie.” The big innovation here is the placement of zippers and kudos to the creators for taking a simple idea and creating something so unique. In this case the zipper at the bottom lets you get your feet out and since it cinches at the bottom you can wrap it around the knees and wear it like a smock. The zippers near the shoulders further let you pull out your arms. The result isn’t the most fashionable looking item but for camping and waking up in the morning before you can get a fire going it could be a welcome item to sleep in and wear.

Oiselle Donates Fleece to Sandy Victims

Seattle-based Oiselle didn’t feel the winds or rain from Hurricane Sandy directly, but experienced some of the devastation directly when members of the company and the charity team EMC showed up in New York City just a few days later to run the marathon. The company had assembled a group of over 50 runners and raised money to benefit the charity Every Mother Counts.

When the marathon was cancelled, many of the runners spent that Sunday running the course of the marathon anyway, to respect and honor the donations people had made to the cause. The giving didn’t end there.

When Oiselle founder returned to her headquarters in Seattle, Washington, Sally Bergesen made a donation of over 100 fleece jackets, worth a total of $9,000, to the Jersey Cares Coat Drive. The coat drive is collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy as well as others in need.

Burton Does the Dew – In a Good Way

Our friend Tim drinks a lot of Mountain Dew but as he’s an active guy we don’t really give him a hard time for it. Of course between his thirst for the “Dew” and various sports drinks we do wonder what his recycling bin looks like – we’re sure there are a lot of plastic bottles. That’s not so good. But fortunately Mountain Dew and Burton Snowboards announced this month that they’re teaming up to roll out the 2013 Green Mountain Project. This outerwear collection is produced from sustainable fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. The GMP outerwear collection includes three stylish and eco-friendly jackets and two pants for men; and two jackets and one pant for women. All of it comes from fabric created from pellets of recycled bottles. So that bottle of Mountain Dew in Tim’s hand today could be on the slopes soon!

Ski Dubai Looks to Go Green With DGRADE

Building a ski resort in the desert isn’t exactly the “greenest” thing we can think of, as it takes a lot of energy to make the snow, cool the slope and run Ski Dubai. In fact the facility is actually fairly green in its own right as it was build used green building techniques and has implemented a number of green policies and practices including effective waste management, energy saving initiatives, recycling and advanced refrigeration and insulation systems. But now Ski Dubai is looking to take this a step further to reduce its carbon footprint.

Ski Dubai announced recently that it will be carrying a special range of environmentally friendly clothing manufactured by DGRADE, a company that specializes in the development of clothing using recycled plastic bottles. This includes the roll out of a new line of sweaters – yes, sweaters in the desert – that are created using up to 30 recycled plastic bottles per garment.
