Biodegradable Clothing Line Introduced

Puma’s new InCycle Collection is made with its end of life in mind. The collection, which includes shoes, clothing and accessories, that only contains items that will break down in one of two processes. This “biological cycle” features fiber materials that are organic and non-toxic and can be broken down by microorganisms into biological nutrients; while “technical cycle” items such as metal and plastic fastenings can be reclaimed through Bring Me Back programs and even sent to factories to be used in new items.

One example is the Puma Track Jacket (above), which is made of 98 percent recycled polyester that is derived from used PET bottles. Even the zipper is made of recycled polyester and the entire jacket can be turned back into polyester granulate and serve as a secondary raw material at the end of its run. The Puma line of InCycle products will be available for the spring collection.

Running Beacon

Glow-in-the-dark technology where you leave something under a bright light for a few minutes isn’t exactly new. But this technology, which has been popular with toys and children’s accessories, is now making its way to fitness apparel. New Balance is introducing the Beacon Jacket, which utilizes light-absorbing technology to add built-in visibility for runners who like to head out after the sun goes down. The new jackets were recently shown off at last month’s Outdoor Retailer Show, and will soon be lighting the night sky.

AUR Active Aims to Be the Best

AUR Active has proclaimed that its AUR C327 Classic Pique Polo shirt could be the “best golf shirt you will ever wear.” While that is a bold statement, the company makes a good pitch.

The shirt is made of long lasting synthetic fibers, which can create a strong, crease resistant fabric that can dry quickly and wick moisture, AUR also maintains that the shirt will maintain its shape season after season. This convinces us that it might not be the last shirt you’d need, but it could likely go the distance – and we don’t mean just 18 holes. It will be available in 14 different colors as well, leaving the opinion on best color to the wearer.

The Bicycle Commuter’s Wingman

When riding to work you don’t need a wingman to watch the road, but the Wingman travel bag from Henty might be just the thing so you can show up at your desk looking smart and ready for business. This multi-purpose bag enables easy and versatile all weather commuting and travel for active business men and women.

Basically this over the shoulder bag is a garment bag that can transport business suits, dresses, shirts and other accessories. There is even a front pocket that includes a padded laptop/tablet sleeve. This Wingman is thus flexible but still features semi-rigid vertical ribs that restricts the diameter when rolled, which in turn minimizes garment creases, allowing wearers to ride to work, change and get the job done.

ReFleece From Recycled Recycled Materials

We’ve seen much in the way of taking plastic bottles and other materials to create fleece fitness apparel, the question remains what happens when the fleece starts to wear out? Instead of it ending up in a landfill perhaps it go another step. ReFleece is a new company that is taking old Patagonia fleeces and turning the used fabric into protective tablet cases for the iPad and Kindle.

Jennifer Feller and Sam Palmer, who met while working at Patagonia, founded the company, which is made of discarded jackets. The outer shell comes from 100 percent post-consumer and post-industrial scrap fleece, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. Continue reading ReFleece From Recycled Recycled Materials

Fit Like a Glove

Winter is in full swing, but Shower Pass is already thinking of next year with gloves that might have you covered. It recently introduced its line of cycling gloves, which include four different versions including three windproof outer gloves and one liner. The Softshell and Hardshell gloves are all fully waterproof and feature Outdry material, which reportedly fuses a waterproof membrane with an outer layer so moisture isn’t trapped instead; while the Wind Glove and Artex liner are designed to stop wind and water alike.

The outer gloves feature reflective treatment and are designed to accommodate the hand placement for bicycle riding, whilst the liner is designed for use on its own or with any of the other three. So next fall if these gloves fit… Glove specs after the jump
