Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

September means the end of summer, and with the coming of fall, it is a time when kids are headed back to school and starting up old routines like classes, homework, and hopefully some involvement in teams, sports and activities with friends. September is also Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.

To help encourage activity, there’s plenty of ways to use technology to get kids excited.

There are activity monitors that turn walking and other movement into a game. Technology is improving sporting equipment. But sometimes the best tool is the simple one, such as a ball or a jump rope.

Foska Pulls Up Baggy Bike Shorts

Recently when we were biking, a pedestrian we passed – whose shorts were down to about his knees – asked “Why your shorts so tight?” It was pretty comical. But on some rides, we’d like the padding but also some loose-fitting shorts. Foska has a new pair, the Buttox Baggy Cycling Shorts. Shorts like these help cyclists fit in when they’re off the bike, but still offer the performance of those spandex staples of cycling. Continue reading Foska Pulls Up Baggy Bike Shorts

Interbike Preview: POC Enters Road With Time Trial Helmet

We first got a glimpse of the POC Tempor helmet at the Olympics earlier this summer, and now the helmet’s designers have announced that it will make its American debut at next month’s Interbike trade show. Since we haven’t seen it up close we can’t comment on many of the details, but POC Sports noted that “the helmet provides the highest possible safety thanks to the appropriate thickness of the liner at exposed areas around the helmet. The ventilation system is optimized with regard to impact absorption without neglecting air flow and aerodynamics. In addition, the fluorescent color increases visibility. The Tempor helmet has overlapping upper and lower shells and includes a detachable visor.”

Hopefully we’ll get to try it on for size in Vegas.
