Oiselle Donates Fleece to Sandy Victims
Seattle-based Oiselle didn’t feel the winds or rain from Hurricane Sandy directly, but experienced some of the devastation directly when members of the company and the charity team EMC showed up in New York City just a few days later to run the marathon. The company had assembled a group of over 50 runners and raised money to benefit the charity Every Mother Counts.
When the marathon was cancelled, many of the runners spent that Sunday running the course of the marathon anyway, to respect and honor the donations people had made to the cause. The giving didn’t end there.
When Oiselle founder returned to her headquarters in Seattle, Washington, Sally Bergesen made a donation of over 100 fleece jackets, worth a total of $9,000, to the Jersey Cares Coat Drive. The coat drive is collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy as well as others in need.

The line of bags discretely stay strapped to the bike, and actually help reduce drag. Continue reading It’s in the XLAB Aero Bag

Polar Goes Ergo With New Bottle
Polar Bottle is doing more than spinning its wheels these days. While the insulated bottle manufacturer got started catering to cyclists, it’s expanding outside of the water bottle cage and offering products focused on other sports, and everyday lifestyles.
“We kept hearing from our customers that they were using our bottles not only for biking but also to keep them hydrated at the office, gym, etc.,” said Judy Amabile, Polar Bottle’s president. “So, we decided to develop a lifestyle bottle that works as a functional fashion accessory that they can use all day everyday.”

CasioTalks SCUBA
If you watch lots of movies where SCUBA divers converse just as if they’re walking on the beach, you probably think that the technology is readily available for divers. There are some communication devices, but they can be costly and clunky. Yamagata Casio has developed the Logosease radio, a transceiver that allows users to have spoken conversations underwater.
The Logosease, which will be on show at the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association Show 2012 in Las Vegas, is a pocketable transceiver that makes the ability to talk during SCUBA dives more accessible. Continue reading CasioTalks SCUBA

Dieters in Japan looking to add fiber to their diets don’t have to give up Pepsi. The soda bottler is marketing a drink with dextrin to Pepsi Special, and marketing it as a “fat blocking soda.” The Atlantic looked into the new drink and other companies doing the same thing including Kirin, a beer company that recently released Mets Cola, which also contains dextrin. Ankle Band-It
Sometimes when you get on the bike you’re not in spandex. Sometimes you’re even in pants. But that presents a problem as the cuff can get caught up in the chain and not only ruin your commute, but also your pants. For years there’s been a few solutions, generally in the form of a bright, reflective yellow strap. New technology and design innovation is making its way down to ankle straps. Find the Spot
Need to find the best place to skate or snowboard? The Spot Digger app will help you out. This location based social mobile app and Internet service lets users search, find, share and rate the best places to skateboard or snowboard. Favorites can be added to the map, and users can even create content for the site and app by adding their own spots.
The concept for this app came about when the founders became frustrated when trying to find places to hit the decks in distant lands. The solution was to create a social network that could be accessed through an app. Video after the jump
“Classic” Riding Helmet
Vancouver-based start up SAHN Helmets says their brain buckets are “about riding. Not racing.” And we like the fact that they take note that not everyone is looking to go out and put in miles on a long training ride. Matt Kelly and Sen-Huy Tan opted to do something different.
Kelly has been creating skateboard and water sport helmets for 10 years at Predator Designs, while partner Tan is an industrial designer. What they have created is a urban lifestyle helmet that evokes a classic motorcycle or even horseback riding helmet. It certainly doesn’t scream bike helmet, but if it protects the helmet we don’t mind that it has some real style too.
