Wearables have become popular. Juniper Research forecasts $19 billion in revenue for the market by 2018. But with many health monitors and wearable devices there is a divide between fitness monitoring (and smart wearable devices), and getting coached on a training regimen. FOCUS: TRAINR is a newly-released app that links between your Samsung Galaxy Gear watch and compatible smartphones. Continue reading TRAINR Links Wearables to Fitness Regime

Put a Finger on It
Having a firearm requires responsibility to ensure that it is locked and secure. The Gun Box, which was designed by Ryan Hyde, doesn’t require a key or combination but rather only lets the authorized user access it via a RFID-equipped bracelet or fingerprint scanner. Hyde is currently looking to raise money to bring the Gun Box to retail via an Indiegogo campaign.
The safe’s shell is made from die-cast aluminum that will ensure the wrong person can’t access the firearm inside, whilst the locking mechanism utilizes motorized servos to prevent someone from prying it open.
This box can be programmed for multiple users, plus it features an accelerometer and will send an alert to your smartphone if it’s moved or tampered with, while it can even be monitored via GPS. It isn’t exactly cheap at nearly $400, but can you really put a price on safety and security? Continue reading Put a Finger on It

Interbike 2013: Kids Feel the Honey Stinger
Kids are as active as you are, maybe even more. But their nutrition requirements are different. So giving them an adult-size nutrition bar might be overkill, and push them over the daily recommended calorie and fat intakes for the day. Honey Stinger is addressing this need with Kids’ versions of their popular Organic Waffles and Organic Chews. Continue reading Interbike 2013: Kids Feel the Honey Stinger
Interbike 2013: Wipeout Helmet for Kids
Triple Eight is onto something. The Wipeout Dry Erase Helmet doesn’t encourage a wipeout on a bike, skateboard or in-line skates. The “wipeout” in the name is actually to denote that the surface of the protective helmet can be decorated using dry erase markers. The helmet, which is available in three sizes, comes in a 3-pack that includes multi-sport wrist guards; knee pads and elbow pads; two neon dry erase, non-toxic markers; and a helmet in either black or pink. Triple Eight also offers stencils to give kids some shapes such as rockets, spiders and peace signs to get started on their doodles. Continue reading Interbike 2013: Wipeout Helmet for Kids
Lil’ Archer Case
Just because a youth archer might have a smaller bow doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t get the same level of protection. Plano knows this and has introduced the Ultra-Lite Bow Case (Model 1108-00), which is constructed with the same expertise and features found in full-size models, but is designed with small bows in mind. It includes foam padding on the lid and base to secure the bow in place, while the PillarLock system provides another level of strength with two strategically located crush-resistant support pillars. At just about $20 it is a budget minded case that provides security for the bow.
Get INDO Yoga
The words safe and unstable don’t usually go together. But the makers of INDO Yoga Board describe it as “a safe and user-friendly unstable platform.” The INDO Yoga Board recreates the practice of stand-up paddleboard yoga on dry land. The board rests on top of several discs that give the board its instability. Users must concentrate on their yoga poses in order to stay in balance. This helps improve stability and works the core muscles. Video after the jump
Drink Up With Oral IV
Hydration is important. We know that. There’s a number of electrolyte drinks and products on the market, and ORAL I.V. has just joined the ranks. This product has actually made its way up the ranks. It was first released in the military and law enforcement community and has been used by SEALS, Force Recon Marines and SWAT teams, among other units.
ORAL I.V. comes in a liquid vial with crystalloid electrolytes dissolved in purified water. It doesn’t contain sugars, stimulants or artificial ingredients. It just contains a concentrated form of the minerals you need to stay hydrated. Of course this tiny vial is no substitute for water. You should continue to drink water before, during and after workout. But the ORAL I.V. helps boost the effectiveness of the water, to keep hydration levels up.
A pack of four 15 mL vials costs $11.99
Slide With Longboard Gloves
Longboarding is a skateboarding hybrid, yet with different demands. The longer and more flexible board is more geared for speed than tricks, and requires a very agile balance. Handling on the longboard often requires riders to lean into a curve, and even use their hands to help steer. Of course that means those hands need to be well protected. A new line of longboard gloves from MH Gloves Sports offers protection, and padding that helps you slide. Continue reading Slide With Longboard Gloves
