Hands On: CEP Running Compression Socks

Compression technology has been gaining ground among athletes. Cyclists in the Tour de France (and all other bike races) use compression garments for recovery. Garments are also being worn for wear during competition and training. Runners and triathletes are also wearing the tight-fitting garments on runs and in competition. I was looking forward to trying a pair of Running Compression Socks after picking up a sample at SIA Snowshow in January. Yes, it’s taken me a while to test and then get my thoughts down.

I got the hot pink sock in a medium. The circumference of your calves determines the size. That’s where you get some of the real compression benefits. On the Classic model of the Running Compression Socks there’s fairly uniform compression up the leg and additional texture compression throughout the foot. CamOne Action Cam

There are several unique takes on the action camcorder market, and CamOne could be a bit of a game changer. Like most rugged go anywhere video cameras, the CamOne Infinity can shoot in 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps. It can be mounted on a helmet or handlebars, and it offers an LCD screen to view the action right after you shot it.

But what really makes this one stand out is the fact that it offers interchangeable lenses. The CamOne Infinity’s standard lens offers a 170-degee, wide-angle filming in WVGA, 720p and 960p as well as 127-degree filming in 1080p. Additional lenses are reportedly coming soon and will include 142-degree and 96-degree options. Continue reading CamOne Action Cam

Portable Washing Machine

Whether it is trekking through the wilds or just on a vacation and spending the day at museums, there is no denying that a washing machine would come in handy. While clothes can be cleaned in the sink it isn’t always easy, and when truly off the grid a sink might not be close.

But the Scrubba wash bag is an excellent alternative. This is a portable, pocket-sized washing machine that weights just 6.35 ounces and will allow users to clean that smelly shirt or underwear. The idea came to inventor Ashley Newland when she was preparing to climb Mt. Killmanjaro.

It uses just 70-100 ounces or water plus two to three drops of cleaning material, which could include body wash or shampoo. Users just pop the clothes in the bag and rub against the internal washboard for 20-40 seconds, and after a rise it is a clean garment that just needs to dry. Video after the jump

eSport Clip Offers Affordable Media Player

It used to be that media players were so expensive that you’d never want to actually use them while working out. But like everything else the technology gets faster, smaller and best of all for the end user cheaper. How low does it go? We recently heard about the eSport Clip MP3/Video player from Ematic, which offers a 1.8-inch screen so it can be used to watch video clips or even read e-books and text files. And it is just $29.00.

So for under $30 you have a 5megapixel digital camera as well, and the device includes a 4GB flash drive for 2300 songs, or 20 hours of videos. It is easy to sync up with the USB 2.0 connection. It probably isn’t the most durable device but at this price are you really going to worry?

Light Up Gloves

We’ve seen bike lights, light up vests and even helmets that can signal, but now we’ve seen the LED Gloves, designed by Irene Posch. Known as the “Early Winter Night Biking Gloves” these could be ideal for late winter and early spring as well. These feature five LEDs in each glove and are powered by just a single cell battery.

These light up when the wearer clenches their fist and can help give drivers a little more indication on which way the rider is turning. It can help make a ride home at night a little safer.

National Parks iPhone App Makes Parks Experience More Interactive

For years enthusiasts of the National Parks have brought their park passport book to all the monuments and parks around the nation. My sister was very into her passport for a while and collected stamps at many parks on a drive across the country. Now an iPhone app can work in tandem with your passport book to add even more fun to the preserved outdoors.

The app features information from the passport book. You can also use the app to view park maps, websites and other information on each National Park. When you’re at the park you can use the camera to record photos and video to be stored with the park on your app.
