The day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. officially kicks off the Christmas shopping season. Some of you might have been proactive and have gotten all of your shopping out of the way, but if you are like many, you haven’t even started to even think about it. If you have not started your shopping yet and there is a toddler or even a big kid on your list, you might be interested in checking out the tricycles from Dirt King USA.
Dirt King USA of WaKeeney, KS is a subsidiary of MCM Manufacturing Inc. After being in the agricultural manufacturing business for 13 years and later expanding into the oil field industry, MCM created Dirt King in 1983 after both of those industries softened and the need to diversify was evident. The first Dirt King product was actually a scooter, but was soon followed by a three-wheeler or tricycle.
The tricycle has been around for many generations and were initially constructed of wood and parts from old carts. Not long after, steel frames tricycles started to appear with either steel or hard rubber tires, but these traditional tricycles typically lasted for just a single generation before be tossed away. The folks from Dirt King wanted to produce a tricycle that would last and be handed down to the next generation, and they also wanted to produce a tricycle using the American labor force from MCM Manufacturing. The result is a tricycle that that is built to last and take just about any abuse that a toddler can dish out.

The tricycles from Dirt King are unique in their construction. With a frame made of 14 and 16 gauge steel and using over-sized pneumatic tires, the Dirt King allows a child to pedal over grass and gravel with ease. Instead of using bushings like other tricycle manufacturers, Dirt King has chosen to use 5/8-inch ball bearings to provide a smooth and long lasting ride. But as with most other tricycles, your child’s feet are the brakes so there are very few parts that require maintenance. The designers at Dirt King positioned the adjustable seat above the back wheels and partially below the front wheel. This positioning of the center of mass, along with the over-sized front wheel, makes the Dirt King tricycle easier to maneuver for children.
The tricycles from Dirt King are made to adjust with your growing child. The child’s version has a range from 3-6 years old while the big kid’s version has a range from 7-adult. You read that correctly, not only does Dirt King make tricycles for kids, but they also make them for adults. There are five different tricycle models to choose from, most with a variety of color options.
Dirt King has built their tricycles to last and they stand behind them with a warranty more commonly seen in the bicycle industry. The frame, fork and welds on the Dirk King Brand tricycles manufactured by MCM Manufacturing Inc. are warranted for life. The components (tires, bearings, etc.) and all warranted for 12 months from date of purchase. The result is actually an even better warranty than some bicycle manufacturers provide.
Along with tricycles, Dirt King also manufactures a cart that can be towed behind their tricycles and a wagon, and these are also built in the Kansas factory with the MGM American labor force.
There are many options for children’s toys this holiday season, but if you want to buy your toddler a tricycle that will last, take a spin on over to Dirt King. Not only will you be making your own toddler happy, but you may be helping a fellow American give their child a Merry Christmas, too!
