Hold onto your iPhone or iPod with the iCat

“It just slipped out of my hand.” Most of us have heard this line after watching someone drop their iPhone or iPod. Usually the results are the same, a cracked screen and a very sad owner, especially if they did not purchase the insurance. A replacement iPhone or iPod can be expensive and dealing with a cracked screen can be annoying or even dangerous. EK Ekcessories of Logan, Utah has a product to help you avoid even dropping your iPhone or iPod – the iCat.

The new iCat is essentially a iPhone and iPod leash, but what makes the iCat unique is that it is actually not attached to a case that would surround the device. The lease instead attaches to the iPod/iPhone using the dock port on the bottom which allows you to pick a case of your choosing, just as long as a dock connector can be plugged in while the case is installed.  Along with being able to choose your own case, the iCat can be used with older iPhones and iPods, just as long as they use a dock connector.

The iCat is available in four versions which include the Wrist It, Hang It, Neck It and Reel It; and each version uses the same dock connector, but a different leash style depending on your needs. The leash allows you to attach it to your wrist, hang it off of your neck or clip it with a carabiner anywhere you think it might be safe. Each version, except for the Reel It, also features a buckle which allows you to quickly separate the device from wherever the leash is attached. All of the versions can be customized with your choice of 20 different options of colored 3.5mm rope. This rope is similar to the accessory cord that you may have seen in the rock climbing section of your favorite outdoor store.

The iCat is made in the U.S.A. and will have a retail price of under $30, depending on the model that you select. This officially Apple licensed product can be ordered directly from EK Ekcessories through their website or through retailers who carry iPhone and iPod Touch accessories. If you find your iPhone or iPod trying to escape out of your hands, the iCat may just be the product for you.
