Riding FASTER

When performance modifications are done to a car, a dynameter can be used to measure the horsepower and torque output at the wheels to analyze and further tune the vehicle. There is an endless number of changes that can be performed on a car that the dyno can measure, but it alone can not be used alone to analyze the effects of drag over the body and chassis without testing in a wind tunnel.

For years, top level professional cyclists have had access to equipment to gauge their power output and wind tunnels to analyze and improve their positioning while on the bike. They also had the deep pockets of sponsors to fund the use of this equipment, but the costs put the use of these facilities out of most amateur racers. Recently watt meters have become smaller and more affordable for the amateur cyclist, so why shouldn’t the wind tunnel be more accessible? That is all about to change.

Set to open in August, the FASTER Performance and Retail Center is finishing up the final touches on their new facility in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Designed to deliver affordable services normally reserved only for the most privileged professional athletes, FASTER is a potent mix of performance services and retail for the recreational and competitive cyclist or triathlete, housing a full-service cycling-focused wind tunnel, high end performance retail sales including frames, wheels, and components, cutting edge bike fitting, along with the most comprehensive list of services to enhance every client’s cycling performance.

Visitors to FASTER could get a bike fitting, test their aerodynamics in the wind tunnel, and later go for a ride in perfect cycling surroundings. Upon the customers return from their ride a concierge will take their bike to the service department for detailing, repairs, or any upgrades while they change and/or clean up in high-end locker rooms; followed by massage, hot and cold recovery therapies, high tech pressure recovery boots, or nutritional consultation.

“FASTER is designed to deliver a better cycling experience through a very scientific, but friendly customer service oriented experience. Our cycling performance specialists are highly trained to help all cyclists and triathletes perform better”, said Paraic McGlynn, a highly respected cycling industry veteran of 20 years experience who will oversee all performance services, as well as daily operations. “Our services are unbiased by ability, experience or fitness level, we simply want the best solutions for everyone delivered in the most professional manner, in the best facility by talented courteous professionals”.

While the general public now has access to previously unavailable or affordable services, FASTER has not taken its eyes off the professional athlete. The wind tunnel will service professional athletes and aim to be the ultimate research and development facility to the manufacturers that fabricate frames, wheels and the aerodynamic related products that cyclists use. As a result, Scottsdale just got a whole lot more attractive as a winter training location for the world’s finest two wheeled athletes.

There are times when you want to take it slow and enjoy the ride, but you can still do that whilst going FASTER.
