Hub in 3D

Kappiusrearhub-450A father and son team is using 3D to produce new designs in bicycle components. Kappius Components went from prototype to production line when it switched from machining parts to the use of a 3D printer from German company EOS GmbH, and Harbec, a New York-based provider of 3D printing technology known as industrial additive manufacturing.

“We went from concept to bike-ready components in about a month,” said Russ Kappius. “I’ve never been able to move that quickly before.

Russ Kappius, a mountain bike enthusiast, winner of six Masters racing titles, and a research geophysicist and software designer is the father behind the new components. His son Brady is an engineer and pro mountain biker. The two have created a start-up company offering a new design in bike components.
