Workouts on the road can be a treat if the hotel has a nice gym stocked with new, top-of-the-line equipment. But then sometimes that equipment is old and tired, and ou wish you’d gotten a few more minutes of sleep before the meeting. Sheraton Hotels just put $120 million into a brand-wide fitness roll-out to equip its gyms and also revamp its meals and individual fitness strategy. The hotel chain teamed with Core Performance, a company that focuses on performance training, nutrition and physical therapy for elite athletes and teams. With this new program, Core Performance developed a state-of-the-art gym experience tailored for the needs of frequent travelers. This addresses concerns such as time-efficient training programs of 20- to 30-minute “themed” workouts. The hotels each are outfitted with equipment from Life Fitness.
Sheraton worked with the fitness company to develop healthier dining options both in the room and in hotel restaurants that address fitness and travel nutrition needs. Guests can access workouts in their rooms with an on-demand, 30-minute workout at no charge. Sheraton’s parent company Starwood provides programming with nutritional and wellness tips through its internal channel. Starwood Preferred Guests can also call to have a complimentary “workout in a bag” delivered to his room, which includes workout cards, a workout mat, foam rolls, resistance band and a massage bar.
After the stay fitness doesn’t end. Guests can access fitness programs created by Core Performance at Sheratonfitness.com. Guests can download workouts and follow programs provided by Sheraton and Core Performance to keep up with workouts.
In addition to an individual’s stay, Sheraton also offers “FITMeeting,” a strategy for corporate meetings that occur at the hotel. FIT Meetings includes healthy breaks, techniques to keep the mind and body sharp, and customizable group workout options. This program is being piloted at nine hotels before it’s rolled out to all Sheraton locations early next year.
