Dieters in Japan looking to add fiber to their diets don’t have to give up Pepsi. The soda bottler is marketing a drink with dextrin to Pepsi Special, and marketing it as a “fat blocking soda.” The Atlantic looked into the new drink and other companies doing the same thing including Kirin, a beer company that recently released Mets Cola, which also contains dextrin.
It’s interesting to see soft drink companies getting a little heather and offering drinks that may have some health benefits. Still claims that any drink has “fat blocking” abilities are very far-reaching. This is a tastier version of fiber solutions like Benefiber or Metamucil, and are an option when someone needs to add fiber or get things moving. But it’s worth looking at the ingredients to see what else besides fiber is in the drink before making it a daily habit – if Pepsi Special even makes it to the market you’re in.
