Interbike 2012: Timex Keeps Ticking with 2.0 Cycling Computer

Timex – the company know to take a licking and keep on ticking – was back at Interbike last week with its Cycle Trainer 2.0 GPS Bike Computer, which includes five screens of real-time cycling data provided by GPS. It can track speed, distance and grade all in real time, while also providing barometric altimeter readings and temperature. The new monitor also tracks heart rate, and is compatible with ANT+ bike and power sensors. This new 2.0 version works with the SIRFstarIII GPS technology and has five customizable screens.

It offers the promise of easy operation with hands free auto start, auto split, auto stop and auto resume. About the only thing it doesn’t seem to do is pedal for you. It offers 19 hours of life with the GPS mode via a rechargeable Li-Ion battery, and thanks to INDIGLO Night-Light with full time illumination can be used after the sun goes down.

We had a chance to test a few of these at last week’s show, as these were on several bikes provided by Litespeed during the Outdoor Demo Days and we had absolutely no complaints. They started and stopped as promised and let us know when we were going a little too far.

Hopefully we’ll get to do a hands on review soon.
