Adidas has been turning heads the last couple of weeks with new shoes just in time for the Olympic Games, and now the company has introduced a new cycling shoe that comes through a collaboration with Specialized. However to get the new Sonic shoes you might have to make the Olympics. The shoes are pro-only and won’t be released commercially.
So what do the pros get? First, the R&D might of Adidas, which think isn’t too shabby, and then insight from Specialized. The Sonic features a Specialized sole and BOA closures, as well as an Adidas thermobonded upper.
But while the public can’t buy it, the question is who will use the Sonic, which was reportedly designed with British riders in mind. BikeRadar noted that “Currently, Mark Cavendish uses Nike-branded shoes, Bradley Wiggins rides Bont, David Millar is on fi;zi:k, Ian Stannard wears Shimano and Chris Froome has Sidi.” We didn’t notice any of the riders using the Sonic shoes Olympics over the weekend, but we’ll be sure to see if the shoes make their debut in tomorrow’s time trial or on the track this weekend.
