Mizuno, the makers of running shoes and clothing, is starting the Mezamashii Run Project, a community for runners that will provide a crowd sourcing element to the Japanese company’s product development. Runners can join to give feedback on designs for running shoes and clothing.
Mezamashii is a Japanese word that translates to “brilliant” or “eye-opening,” and hopes to compliment the runners who sign up for the community. Mizuno, which was founded in Osaka, Japan in 1906, plans to entice its American consumers with the community. The company will host Q&A sessions with designers, sneak peeks of Mizuno products, show behind-the-scenes video content and even offer some wear-test opportunities. In addition to the occasional free product, Mizuno is hosting a giveaway with its members. Sign up for Mezamashii, which is hosted on the Mizuno USA website, to enter for a chance to win a pair of Mizuno shoes, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to the 2012 Osaka Marathon in Japan. Mizuno is an official sponsor of the Osaka Marathon.
“The Mezamashii Run Project is a running community that brings the Mizuno experience to you, and helps put Mizuno running shoes on runners’ feet,” said Vicky Wilkens, brand marketing manager at Mizuno USA Running. “We can tell you everything that we want you to know about our shoes, but the Mezamashii Run Project allows runners to come to their own conclusions. We are that confident that our running shoes will speak for themselves.”
Mizuno started a beta version of the Mezamashii Run Project in May with hand-picked “running influencers,” who were mailed an exclusive, individually numbered invitation. The project was a success, and the company opened it to the public.
