TrainingPeaks Lets Athletes Edit Data on the Web

Last week after a ride we put the bikes on the car and packed up. Just as we got rolling, we heard the Garmin Edge cycle computer beep from the trunk. It picked up movement, and was about to track our drive home. Because this stuff happens, TrainingPeaks just started offering the ability to edit data on the web interface. This way you can delete such errors that get uploaded from a tracking device, and concentrate on performance.

TrainingPeaks is software that charts out activity uploaded from any activity monitoring device such as a heart rate monitor, cycle computer, or other device. There’s a list of at least 90 devices on the TrainingPeaks website. It also lists non-specific iPhone apps and ANT+ compatible devices.

Other than tracking the drive home, why do you need to edit data? There’s a number of reasons. TrainingPeaks users now have the ability to:

• Delete segments of data such as warm-ups or cool downs and erroneously created segments (such as the drive home from a ride).
• Edit specific points where data spikes have occurred.
• Drop entire channels such as heart rate, power, pace, temperature, cadence, wattage, and so on.

When you edit out certain elements, the interface automatically adjusts workout totals, average and peak value calculations. “The ability to edit your raw device data on the web is a big step forward for athletes using GPS, power or heart rate monitors. We’ve seen a hute increase in device uploads over the past few years, but the data wasn’t always perfect. We have the best analytics tools of any endurance sports training software, and this feature will help improve the accuracy of your data,” said TrainingPeaks co-founder and CEO Gear Fisher. “This in turn improves your ability to analyze and plan future workouts effectively.” Got Game Entertainment

The ability to delete portions of data was possible with TrainingPeaks before, but only for users of the software, not web users.

Data editing capabilities will be available to paid Premium TrainingPeaks Athlete Edition users, and users of TrainingPeaks Coach Edition. Users of the TrainingPeaks free Basic Athlete Edition will have access to the platform’s workout graphs and select charts, but editing comes only to those who upgrade.
