Did you hear about the Zombie Run just a little too late to join the race? Active.com, a social network site that lists running events by geography, just launched a Mob portion to its site to help you locate some of the more adventurous races and runs.
Categorized by “mud runs,” “Obstacle courses,” “adventure races,” “costumes/themes,” and “just for partiers,” the Mob portal helps you find the races that are more than just a run in the park. Click on the icon for any of those headings, and the site takes you to a map of your area and points out the races in each category.
I clicked on “costumes/themes” but got listings for all categories. It’s not too much of an issue to see all categories, some of the races overlap and fall under multiple categories. The “Rock the World 5K Obstacle Race in September is categorized as a costume/theme, mud run, adventure, and “just for partiers” kind of run, all in one.
While the map shows you what’s in your area, there’s also a rundown of the most popular races under the “Mob” umbrella” that may be a little farther afield. This is a good way to plan your next vacaction. The Tough Mountain Challenge 2012 in Maine might make a nice destination for a trip, and I can see how many people have already signed up to participate.
