Sometimes outdoor time requires blaring music, and headphones don’t apply. For those occasions you might want to secure your smartphone, iPhone or mp3 player in a waterproof case to be sure the elements don’t get into those sensitive areas. For times like this, Grace Digital just released the Eco Terra Boombox, a 100 percent waterproof dock and speakers that you can fully submerge under water.
Eco Terra Boombox is IPX7 waterproof tested and approved and will withstand rainstorms, ocean waves, pool parties, kayaking and other sorts of submersions. The boombox also floats, so even if your best efforts to keep it out of the water fail, recovery is easy.
Elastic straps secure an iPod, iPhone, Blackberry, Android, mp3 player or smartphone in place behind a clear, sealed plastic compartment. There’s also some room to stash keys, ID, cash and some other small essentials. Once strapped in, a phone or other device plugs into the speakers via a 3.5mm headphone jack. Two 3-inch full-range forward firing speakers flank the center compartment housing the phone and other goods.
Up to 25 hours of playtime are powered by four C-Cell batteries. You can also plug in to an AC power adaptor for longer play time. Carabineers and a shoulder strap make it possible to carry the Eco Terra or secure it in place from a boat, tree or other location. The ability to strap the system down also adds a level of security. The player has an IPX7 approved waterproof headphone jack built into the front of a speaker.
To adapt to altitude changes, the Eco Terra Boombox is designed with an air pressure release valve that keeps the case water tight and still easy to open at any altitude.
Grace Digital sells the Eco Terra Boombox for $159.99.
