It is impossible to plan for all scenarios out in the wilderness, but having an emergency blanket can add a sense of security. These tend not to take up much room, and now the Blizzard Survival adds new technology that improves upon the traditional emergency blanket.
In addition o the usual layer of reflective fabric, the Blizzard Survival blanket features Reflexcell technology, which adds honeycomb-like chambers that reflect and trap heat to keep the user warm. So instead of a flat piece of reflective fabric this design utilizes a three-layer, three-dimensional design that features air pockets, which capture warm air and provide an additional layer of insulation. The material reportedly offers around 8 to 9 Togs worth of thermal resistance, compared to traditional reflective blankets that offer just 4 togs.
It is also lighter than other materials, but one issue remains – comfort, as in wearing the material isn’t exactly comfortable. Still the company is utilizing the material in blankets, as well as sleeping bags and even special emergency jackets. While established in the government and medical market, Blizzard Survival is now making a push into the consumer market so maybe they’ll do something to make the Reflexcell as comfortable to wear as it is effective.
