We missed Zeal Optics at the Outdoor Retailers Show but fortunately they caught our eye anyway with the iON Goggles, which the company is showing at this week’s SIA Snow Show. The Boulder-based companies is offering a look at the iON, which features an embed high-definition camera to capture video and photos.
The iON is equipped with a 1080p True HD video camera that doubles as a 8megapixel digital still camera, and it can be used to capture real time video and sound, or used for still images. The camera features a 170-degree wide angle lens to capture images while automatically adjusting for light levels. The camera even features an infinity focus so wearer’s have one less thing to worry about. There is an in-goggle viewfinder as well.

The camera controls can be operated with by using the buttons on the side of the goggles, and these have been designed for use even with a gloved hand. The iON features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and offers a six-hour run time, so it will ready for a full day on the slopes, whilst bringing footage to a computer is easy via a mini-USB connection. A micro-SD card slot is also available.
And beyond all this the Zeal Optics still serve as goggles too, featuring the new OPTIMUM lens that offer anti-fog, high-density, impact-resistant properties that improve performance. The polarized lens provides 100 percent protection from UVA and UVB rays that can damage eyes. Metal mirroring provides additional protection from the sun. iON will be offered in two colors: Matte Night Black and Moss Green.
The goggles will also offer wearers find their way, as the iON is the new pinnacle of the Zeal Optics Tech Series, which features in-goggle GPS viewfinder that allows users to track altitude, speed, GPS, temp and even integrate with an Android smartphone for Bluetooth syncing and integration.
The goggles will be ready to hit the slopes this season (MSRP: $399). The iON is the one for on the eyes!
