Typically sleds are designed to make hauling a heavy load over a set distance a little bit easier. Whether that load is a deer dragged out of the woods by a hunter, a kid’s sled barreling down a hill or Santa’s sled landing on a roof, the goal of moving a body of mass over a surface with ease is the same. But there are a few sleds made with the opposite goal in mind – making the task of moving a body of mass harder. These ‘power sleds’ are used in fitness training to build strength and stamina. Strength Squared, with locations in both Las Vegas, NV and Denver, CO, has only been making power sleds since 2010, but they have made a big splash in the market with an appearance on the NBC show, “The Biggest Loser” earlier this year.

Strength Squared currently has two models of power sleds, the Punisher and the Black Widow. Both sleds are constructed of steel and powder-coated to help give each of these pieces of equipment a longer life. The Punisher is designed as a push/pull sled while the Black Widow is primarily to be used as a pulling sled. Though each design allows for loading of conventional gym weights, Strength Squared is aware that it users may not have these weights on hand so they have included either a large platform to hold sand bags or handles for a person to hold on while the individual in training does the work.
These sleds can be dragged over just about any type of surface from grass to concrete. Knowing that the feet of these sleds will wear out, Strength Squared has designed the Punisher with feet that can be replaced. As for the Black Widow, it currently does not appear that a replacement foot is available or even an option.
Both Strength Squared sleds are made in America and can be order directly from their website. The Black Widow has a price tag of $150 while the much more versatile Punisher comes in at $250. These sleds are very heavy weight and designed to last.
